That is the great advantage of Twitter is that you can tweet a question and receive answers almost immediately.  If there is something on your website or about your business that you think can be approved on, you can tweet about it and as your followers for their opinions.

Participate in Networking

Building relationships with customers and potential customers is the key to any successful business.  With Twitter you can network with thousands of people worldwide in your chosen niche.
Many marketers will tell you that the money is in the list and this is very true.  Twitter can be used in much the same way as a subscriber list; although your messages are much shorter than what you would send in an email, you are still able to send out messages to hundreds of people in one go.  So if you build a big list of followers on Twitter then you will have a huge number of potential customers to market to.

Build a Reputation

If you build a good reputation in your niche then you will brand yourself and your business and will soon find that your followers will recommend you to their friends.  You can gain a lot more followers and potential customers by friend referrals.
Having a good reputation and being seen as an expert in your field is a great way to build your customer base and make sales.  Many customers will come to you already prepared to buy from you if they have been given a good recommendation.

Direct Marketing

When you have a list of followers on Twitter that are all targeted customers for your niche, then you can market your product or website directly to those followers.
You can promote your website to your followers by sending out tweets on a regular basis.  The important thing to remember is not to send out spammy tweets as this is the fastest way to lose your followers.  Send out tweets that offer a little bit of information with a link to your website where they can find out more.
You can also include a link to your website in your profile on Twitter and you would be surprised at the number of people that will visit your website through this link.

Twitter is one of the best marketing tools available for any Internet Marketer and it is simple and free to use.  If you have a personal Twitter account then I do recommend starting a new one solely for your business so you can build up your followers list based on your niche. You will soon see your business grow and become successful very quickly if you use this marketing tool correctly.

Set Up a Facebook Account

It is best to set up a separate Facebook account for your business rather than using your personal account. Once you have your Facebook account set up then you can invite anyone that you know in your business community to be your friend on Facebook.

Visit Facebook Pages in Your Niche

Search for business pages or fan pages in your niche and join them and start becoming interactive in them. Then you can begin to add other Facebookers from these pages as your friends and you will find many people sending you friend requests also.

Lichtenberg tried to dispel what might be one common misconception by stating, Social media itself is not a tool. It is a strategy. She then added, Every business should have a strategy around social media.

Lichtenberg thinks its best to form this strategy in a vision-driven way. The question companies should ask themselves is, Who do you want to be as a business when people see you online? Coming up with an answer will help organizations pick their approach.

Deciding on an online identity will also help employees who can be a businesss biggest advocates know how to act online. And Lichtenberg thinks it isnt wise for companies to forbid access to social networks, by the way.

Then here’s one last tip: before trying to use social media to help with lead generation and sales, conduct specific campaigns around factors like awareness, market share, and buzz. These things are better-suited to social media and serve as good starting points.

Social Media:Social media: Participatory online media where news, photos, videos, and podcasts are made public via social media websites through submission. Normally accompanied with a voting process to make media items become “popular”.[citation needed]

Social Media Expanded Definition: Social Media is the democratization of information, transforming people from content readers into content publishers. It is the shift from a broadcast mechanism to a many-to-many model, rooted in conversations between authors, people, and peers.

Social media uses the “wisdom of crowds” to connect information in a collaborative manner. Social media can take many different forms, including Internet forums, message boards, weblogs, wikis, podcasts, pictures and video. Technologies such as blogs, picture-sharing, vlogs, wall-postings, email, instant messaging, music-sharing, group creation and voice over IP, to name a few. Examples of social media applications are Google (reference, social networking), Wikipedia (reference), MySpace (social networking), Facebook(social networking), Last.fm (personal music), YouTube (social networking and video sharing), Second Life (virtual reality), and Flickr (photo sharing).
